Just a quick post to ask what has happened to all of last seasons sucessful youth squad. None of them deemed good enough for the first team? Was the oppurtunity even given to them???  Rolling Eyes

They are at that age when beer and women effect their brains, they no longer wish to run after a ball, they would rather chase the birds, that is what has happenend to last years youth players Laughing  Shocked  Razz

Sounds a lot like some of the first team players.

Through school, the youth are taught the 3 R’s. By the time they reach our Under 18’s, most are discovering the 3 W’s – wine, women and wheels, all of which need considerable funding so a 4th W is introduced called work to fund the other 3, which has a tendency to take main priority in their lives as they come to terms with the fact that they are not going to be the next Wayne Rooney! But who guides them through this transitional period of their lives?
I’ve been involved with Under 18 football for nearly 10 years, very few make the step up straight away to first team level, and with our own first team being considered as one of the best teams in their league, its very difficult for them to break through. In answer to your question about last season’s ‘better’ youth players, Scholesy was from Wolverhampton and was never going to make the commitment needed for our first team; Spider has decided that his future is better served by playing for Harriers Under 18’s, but from what I understand, he doesn’t feature much, which is a shame as I know Mercer would have built his team around him this season; Webby now plays for Pershore and Luke Towler has chose to play for Bromyard as they are prepared to pay him, but to be fair to both of these 2, I don’t see how they would have featured for our first team this season, but rest assured, I will keep as much up to date with their progress as I can – Towler is definitely a prospect, but it depends how he fairs with his 3 W’s!!!

Bob the only factor that you forgot was
Do the youth team go out drinking with Mercer,
God help them if they do he drinks like a fish,
which means they will never be fit to play 1 team footy

It makes me chuckle you saying that you are keeping an eye on Towler. He has gone to Bromyard because was never asked to go to Bewdley as was told he was not good enough. Whether he is or not (has scored 10 goals in an average Bromyard team this season) is not the point. You got to get these lads invovled as firstly you don't know what they develop into and secondly when all the Hough's and Pountney's get too old where's the next team come from? And Bewdley wont be able to lure back the Towler's of the U18's if he continues to progress as he will stay loyal with the team who developed him or play a lot higher standard than Bewdley will.
I see Mike Carter has played games at centre half this season which is makeshift at best. The U18's had 2 exceptional centre backs last season. Matt Williams who represented County at U18 and Mike Jennings who plays now for Darlaston Reserves and on the verge of representing their 1st team as is performing well. Neither were even asked.
Bewdley desperatly need a reserve team and it should be 80% full of old U18's and current U18's who are good enough. Mixed in with a couple older heads maybe 1st teamers coming back from injury or ones who aint getting a game.
Thats my 2 pennies worth anyway lol
